The small houses on the outskirts of Humahuaca all have the faces of Tupac Amaru and Che Guevara on their facades. Northern Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, and even Equador used to be the stronghold of the mighty Inca Empire up until about until about the late 1500s. Tupac Amaru was their last leader. The Spanish crushed the empire and left years of hardship on the indigenous people that still exists today. As evident by these houses, these people are still proud of their past and the various leaders who resisted imperialism.
